Biodanza & The Energies of Spring

with Niraj and Milarepa

Friday March 20 – Sunday March 22

We are fortunate enough to be granted a date for this workshop over the Spring Equinox, an important time in the calendar since time immemorial, where night and day are of equal length.

It signifies a change in the seasons, where the cold, dark, wet winter months give way to the return of the light and warmth and the regeneration of life in the plants and animals and indeed ourselves as we turn our faces to the sun once again and feel the natural lift this gives to the spirit.

With cooperation from the weather I am optimistic that we will be able to dance outside in the hallowed grounds of Leela where many transformative experiences have occured over the twenty years of my career leading Biodanza here.

There is something extraordinarily special about vivencias in nature. They truly are uncannily more than the sum of their parts and some of the deepest, most profound connections in the line of Transcendence can and do happen with regularity.

We shall explore themes of renewal and rebirth, fecundity and fertility, change, awakening, the celebration and honouring of natural cycles, harmony, growth and the return of Life!

This is a weekend for experienced dancers and beginners alike and will feature four full length vivencias, two each from Niraj and Mila plus a Saturday evening happening to be decided.

You are warmly welcome to join us to dance your way through this transformative time and spring to life the Biodanza way!

What is Biodanza

Biodanza is a system of human integration, emotional development, and renewal through music, dance, and authentic connections.

Developed by Rolando Toro in the 1960s.

Biodanza encourages a joyful, expressive way of living that enhances well-being and deepens relationships with oneself and others.

This is not about performance. It’s about remembering your aliveness, moving from the heart, and reconnecting with your essential vitality.

NIRAJ

Niraj Skilbeck, facilitator

Niraj co-leads the Dorset School of Biodanza alongside Milarepa Burgin, graduate of the first cycle of the training from 2008-2011 and is highly skilled at introducing people to the profound depths biodanza has to offer, such as sensitivity, sensuality, touch, affection and authentic expression. Using the medium of Biodanza, a series of dance, movements and exercises that create space for a deep experience within oneself and with others, each workshop is led as a vivencia, a space in which words are dropped and the deep wisdom of the body is entered.

Niraj has been involved in Biodanza since 1997, leads the teacher training program, and is also trained in the Osho Humaniversity training. He also has specialisation certificates to teach Biodanza and the Four Elements, Biodanza in Nature, Biodanza and Shamanism, AquaBiodanza, Biodanza for Children, Biodanza and Massage, Contact Education, The Heart of Transformation, the Minotaur Project and the Argonaut Mission. He has been involved in teaching Biodanza in 20+ countries.

Milarepa Burgin, facilitator

My first experience of Biodanza was with Niraj during the Spring Festival at Osho Leela in 2006. That initial vivencia had a deeply profound effect on my life, something which continues to resonate even now, and I remember saying to Niraj “if you ever decide to train people in this, you can count me in”.

After almost 20 years of dancing, with nearly 15 of those years as a facilitator, it feels that life has come full-circle as we now welcome a new cohort to Osho Leela to begin a new cycle of this incredible training. Whether you see yourself as a future teacher or simply want to enhance and enrich your own life with greater levels of expression and connection, the Biodanza facilitator training is, in my opinion, unparalleled in it’s depth and breadth and provides each participant with a unique insight into their own life and into the experience of living.

We look forward to welcoming you to the dance floor and to a deeper understanding of just what it is to be alive.

Why This Workshop Matters

Our ancestors celebrated and revered this time of year (and many others!) much more than we do today. Modern western humans have lost touch with our connection to the natural world, the seasons, to ritual and the eternal cycles by which all living things are governed, and we call it progress! It’s not. It’s a fundamental regression from knowing and being in our rightful place in the inextricably linked web of life on Earth.

Here, we have the opportunity to recover some of that essential lost ground and feel ourselves as instinctual, bodily beings again, rather than thinking machines ever more at sea in a virtual world starved of meaning, true earthly, physical/emotional connection to the land, the elements and each other.

A Note on Presence

‘It’s not news to anyone that mobile phones are proliferating throughout all the world’s public spaces, and not in a good way. Almost everywhere you go, multiple people are seduced from the present moment by the hyper addictive nature of an ever present internet connection. I have decided to make a stand against this and make my weekends an opportunity for a 2 day digital detox to spare us all from distraction and over stimulation. This means handing in your device on arrival till the Sunday afternoon finish. This measure has proved wildly popular so far, with many people articulating astonishment at the difference it makes to be without it. It also serves to further the intent of the weekend, which is to enhance interpersonal connection both on and off the dancefloor.

A 24hr Emergency Contact number will be provided to all participants in the week before arrival to give to your loved ones.
Exceptions must be applied for in advance to Niraj by email to biodanzaniraj@gmail.com
There will be no discussions about this on the day. Please be clear what you are signing up for in advance of making your payment.
Many thanks for your cooperation and understanding.
